Welcome to Learning to Lead

Learning to Lead is a highly inclusive approach to education created by students and teachers working together.

LtoL takes the real life experience of ‘school’ as a community and offers tools, programme sharing courses and structures to support young peoples’ involvement in all aspects of their life and learning, working towards positive change.

In the process students discover more about who they are themselves and what they want to do in the future.

Whole Education 2nd Annual Conference 6th December 2011

Learning to Lead is a partner organisation of Whole Education, a group of like-minded individuals and organisations that believe all young people should have a fully rounded education.

On Tuesday 6th December Whole Education will host their 2nd annual conference: 'How well are we preparing young people for life and work in the 21st century?' Building on the success of last year's sell-out event this conference will bring together leading education and business figures from across the world to explore some of the 'big debates' in the field. Hear from a distinguished panel of keynotes:

  • Keri Facer, Professor of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University exploring strategies for schools to respond to the social, technological and economic challenges of the next decade
  • Kristiina Kumpulainen, Director at the Finnish National Board of Education sharing how Finland is responding to what it feels the basic education needs are for young people in the 21st century
  • Caroline Waters, Director of People and Policy at BT providing an employer's view on what skills, qualities and knowledge young people will need for the future
  • Larry Rosenstock, CEO of High Tech High in California, revealing their unique approach to helping prepare all their students to be college ready

Delegates will also have the opportunity to attend breakouts covering Transforming Education Systems, Curriculum and Assessment, Schools and Communities, plus Leadership, Pedagogy and CPD. Breakouts will be chaired with contributions from schools and other experts followed by Q&A and discussion.

Branching out and building on past success...

Building on the success of the Learning to Lead programme, we wish to extend its use and reach into local communities, so children and young people can lead projects which will benefit their locality, involve their friends and families and local organisations in making great things happen!

We are planning a pilot in Bath & North East Somerset. If you would like to get involved in any way, please contact us at enquiries@ltol.org

Following the launch of the evaluation by the University of Cambridge of the Learning to Lead secondary national pilot an illuminative document of the full report is now available for download, with the full report available on the 2nd of April.

"On every count this report offers hope and optimism for a better kind of school"
Professor Macbeath, University of Cambridge.

“I’ve seen initiatives come and go and I must say none have made such a sustained change for the good in the school as this one. It has had a profound effect.”
